Updated: Feb 6

In this tutorial, you will learn how to hide vertical and/or horizontal scroll bars in Excel. By hiding the vertical or horizontal scroll bars, your workbook will not be cluttered with unnecessary information and can present a clean looking interface. This can be very helpful if you are using a smaller screen or on mobile devices.

Hide Horizontal Scroll Bar

The horizontal and vertical scroll bars are used to scroll through a worksheet. These scroll bars can be displayed by default in Excel 2013, Excel 2016, and Excel 2019. However if you need to hide these horizontal scroll bars from user, you can do it easily.

To hide the horizontal scroll bar, follow these steps:

1. In the Ribbon, go to the File tab.

2. In the menu to the left, go to Options (at the end of the list).

3. In the Excel Options window, go to Advanced, scroll down to the Display options for this workbook section, uncheck Show horizontal scroll bar, and click OK.

Making this change hides the worksheet’s horizontal bar. As you can see in the picture above, this display option refers only to the current workbook, but you could also choose any open Microsoft Excel.
